Calorifiers – Repair and Exact Replacement
At Heatxforce, designing and manufacturing heating Calorifiers is a core business for us. We provide new-build and installation, re-tubing and bundle replacement, crop backs and new plates. We also carry out insurance inspection preparation and any remedial work as required.
The calorifier heat exchangers can be bespoke and designed and built for a specific application. However, we also carry out extensive repair work and upgrades. For example; replacement tube bundles, re-tubing, shells and channel replacement, plugging and repairs. As well as insurance preparation and remedial works.
What is a Calorifier?
A Calorifier is a storage container that has the capacity to generate heat from stored water. Calorifiers works by acting as a vessel that takes in a quantity of water and generates it into heat. As the water is generated into heat, it radiates to warm specific things. In a boiler for example, the calorifier heats the water using a coil, which then emits into the building as a heat source.
What is a Calorifier used for?
A calorifier is used to heat water for either heating or DHW (Domestic Hot Water) system. They comprise of a vessel into which a tube bundle is bolted. Steam or hot water is circulated through the ‘U’ shaped tubes of the tube bundle, this gradually heats the water in the vessel. Calorifiers are used in buildings such as hospitals, schools, colleges, offices, public buildings etc.
What are Calorifiers made of?
The ‘U’ tubes are usually made from copper as it has a high thermal conductivity. The copper tubes often have an extended external surface, designed to increase the heat transfer surface. The tubes are joined to a tube plate, usually using a tube expanding tool.
Calorifiers versus Plate Heat Exchangers
Calorifiers are steadily being replaced by plate type heat exchangers due to the smaller footprint and because quite often there is no need for a vessel as in the case of instantaneous hot water skids. Nevertheless, there are still many Calorifiers in service.
